Getting healthy and starting the gym, the one New Years resolution that most people give up and quit after the first month. So why is this widely sought out aspect of having a healthy life so easily given up on? I assume the thoughts of having to give up junk food, fizzy drinks and well earned time prolongs people of completing this goal. The thought of having to get up and travel to the gym is bound to put people off. Well, we are here to give you our top 5 tips to get fit and healthy from home!

1. DRINK MORE WATER

An obvious thing but yes, drinking more water improves your health more than most people realise. Drinking water is imperative for staying healthy as it keeps you energized and helps you lose weight. Thirst is usually disguised as hunger, so when you think your a little bit hungry, your actually just thirsty  and water is the best natural drink for energy available! To find out exactly how much water you should be drinking, divide your body weight (in pounds) by two and aim to drink that many ounces of water per day.

2. GET MORE SLEEP

Now, your probably thinking how can getting more sleep help me? Well, when your depriving your body of sleep, you are not allowing your body to restore and protect vital organ functions. Not getting enough sleep can speed up the ageing process and detract from your weight loss efforts. So instead of staying up extra late snacking on that Kit-Kat you love so much, try and aim to get about 7 hours (minimum) sleep before the next day.

3. CUT DOWN ON DESERTS

This is going to be a hard one, I know. However, you do not have to completely cut out deserts forever. It is perfectly fine to treat yourself to a well deserved snacky treat! It is all about moderation and control. Instead of having an unhealthy snack try having some fruit or gluten free treats. Here’s a fun fact for you, eating sweats and snacks directly after a meal disrupts the absorption of nutrients. Try and avoid eating straight after that tasty healthy meal. Instead, treat yourself to that cheeky desert about 2 hours after you finish your meal. This way you get to have your cake and eat it!

4. EATING CLEAN

One thing that many people do not realise is that normally when you eat fast food, it doesn’t actually fill you up for that long. After about an hour or so, you will start to feel hungry again tempting you to eat more and more until you are satisfied. This doesn’t just make you gain weight but it also destroys your sense of control when it comes to eating. Try cooking and eating more fresh and unprocessed meat. Chicken, salmon and turkey are just a few that can help to reach your goal. As well as cutting out fast food, try filling up on high-fiber, nutrient-rich fruits, vegetables and grains. Eat a piece of fruit or have a handful of nuts prior to a large meal. This will help you to avoid overeating on empty calories later in the day.

5. DO HOME WORKOUTS

This is for the people who do not like going to the gym. However, the gym is not the only place you can workout and keep fit. Working out at home is a great way to achieve that summer body your dreaming about. You can roll out of bed and get started without having to even leave your house!
